Name of walking trail: The Wye Valley Walk
Length: 136 miles

A 136 mile walk of startling contrasts; passing through the battle scarred Anglo-Welsh borders, ravines cloaked in woodland, meadows, and remote uplands.

The route follows distinctive ‘leaping salmon’ marker posts and runs from the river's mouth at Chepstow to where it pours in rocky cascades from its mountain source at Plynlimon. Highlights include dramatic castles at Chepstow and Goodrich, the historic town and abbey at Tintern, breathtaking scenery at Symonds Yat, fascinating bookshops at Hay-on-Wye and the Gilfach Medieval longhouse.

The walk can be broken down into eight stages;
Chepstow to Monmouth - 16.5 miles
Monmouth to Ross on Wye - 17.5 miles
Ross-on-Wye to Hereford  - 17.5 miles
Hereford to Hay-on-Wye - 23 miles
Hay-on-Wye to Builth Wells - 21 miles
Builth Wells to Rhayader - 16.5 miles
Rhayader to Plynlimon  - 24 miles

Chepstow, Monmouth and Ross on Wye are all within easy reach by car, from the Fountain Inn. Click the tabs above for a trail map, latest weather conditions and photographs.
